I worked Day shift. I do not like to work morning shift because you really need to get up early. Our shift begins at 6am and it ends 2pm. But I do like it though because the time runs so fast unlike other shifts the time runs so slow. We had one patient who is G2P2. I checked my patient that I delivered the other day and did the mother and baby check-up. Everything was normal. I also did Newborn screening. There was another patient who gave birth with Serena and Heather.

Saturday, July 11th, 2009Odd cravings point to iron-deficiency
Thursday, February 5th, 2009In my field of work most common problem of pregnant women is anemia. I did about 15 prenatal check-up and 70 % of them are anemic. There is what we call physiologic anemia which means it is normal for pregnant women that their iron or hemoglobin level is lowered during pregnancy. It is called in medical terms “Physiologic anemia”. People with iron-deficiency anemia may develop strong cravings to eat dirt, rice, ice, paint, starch, raw potatoes or tomatoes. Such cravings are called pica (PIE-Kuh). If you experience an unusual craving, tell your doctor about it. A simple blood test can show whether you have an iron deficiency. Other symptoms of iron-deficiency anemia include fatigue, pallor, cracks in the sides of your mouth and brittle nails. They also complain of difficulty of breathing by just walking a short distance. We are doing our best to help them to have their hemoglobin level with in normal limits.
A huge Uterine myoma
Tuesday, December 16th, 2008I work in a Lying in Maternity center for 3 months. I stopped working because of my other plans. Though I am not already connected with that institution, I make myself available to them when they need help. Today I was called for they need help in delivering a suspected twins. When I arrived in the clinic, the first baby was already out. The patients abdomen is still very big, and when we palpate it, it felt like there was another baby inside the womb. I did and IE (Internal examination) the cervix is 5cm open, but I could not feel baby’s head or any body parts because it was still very high up. I checked the FHT (fetal heart tones) with a doppler but I could not hear anything. I was confused then and worried because if there was still another baby inside, it must be dead already. So we decided to call our back physician. She brought with her an ultrasound. To our surprise, what was in her womb was not a baby, it’s a huge myoma (a growth in the uterus). God is so good to her for it did not obstruct the baby or choke the baby. She was on medication and on under observation for 3 months and will evaluated if she needs surgery.
