Rescue 911

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

I was on night shift the other day. We had a very busy shift. There were a lot of babies wanted to come out in my shift. One of the patients was brought by the Rescue 911 team. The patient’s baby decided to come out at home. The placenta did not come out yet. She was endorsed to me with Intavenous fluid (IVF) inserted. According to the team the baby was already out when they reached to their house. They clamped and cut the cord. The baby had no problems. We waited for the placenta to come. It was out after 5 minutes. Everything was settled. The patient and her baby was discharged few hours after.

Adrenaline came rushing

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Today I worked Day shift 6am-2pm. I set my alarm clock at 5:30 am. My alarm went off but I think I was still half awake and turned it off without my awareness. I was dreaming that I am already prepared for my shift. Then finally I suddenly wake up and when I looked at the clock, it was already 5:56am. All my adrenaline came rushing. I jumped off the bed and was fully awake in just a moment. I was kind of confused as to what do I need to do first. Finally I figured it out. Of course, I was not able to have a full shower as I used to before my every shift. Fortunately, I arrived in the birth room 2 minutes before endorsement time. It is good that I am just staying in the clinic where I work.

The journey to well-being starts with simple steps

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

In my field of work, I usually get tired almost after every shift. Delivering babies is not easy. It takes all your energy especially when births have complications. I always remember, I don’t have to take fatigue lying down. There are many ways I can fight back: Eat a balanced diet. Get enough sleep as possible. Exercise regularly by walking or jogging each day. Have a positive attitude. And take multivitamins daily. It won’t just get me back on my feet. It made me feel like the world is at my feet.

Moody day

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Today I do not feel good. I was moody. I do not know why but may be due to hormonal changes. Lol. Anyways, someone got me to insert an IV (intravenous) to the patient. I prayed that God would still help me to insert it successfully even I am not in the mood. God really did not disappointment. I got it in one try. To God be the glory.

Called for IV insertion

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

I was once again called up in the middle of the night to insert an IV to a laboring patient. The staff in the Lying clinic where I worked before needed help for it. So I went there and of course, I prayed and ask God to guide my hand and be able to insert the IV cannula successfully in one try since the patient had couple of poke already. God did answered my prayer. I was able to insert it without any problems. I used to insert it in the cephalic vein. I like that site because it big compare to the other veins. At the same time, it is not hard for the patient since she can move her hand without dislodging the IV cannula. There is no need for a splint which make her hand immobile.
The laboring patient needs to be induced for her labor did not progress so I she needs one so that medication will be given to her via IVTT (intravenous through tubing). After the insertion I went back home feeling good about myself that I was able to help someone.

Right now, I am reviewing or studying for my up coming exam this January 16, 2009. Include in my prayers.

Called for IV insertion

Monday, January 5th, 2009

iv-class-034 I was called the other night to insert and IV (intravenous) insertion. The patient really needed an IV so that the Induction of labor be started. The staff of the Lying In Clinic were not successful of inserting an IV so they called me up. I was almost ready to sleep when I received the call. I am very much willing to help them when they need to. I was praying that God would bless my hand to let me insert the dextrose successfully in just one poke. It felt a little bit stress because, somehow I doubted myself a little though I already done many insertions. I do not want to poke the patient twice since the patient had been poke like thrice with their try. It would be so shameful if I do not do it successful since they expected me to make it. I really prayed hard that God will help me with it. God answered my prayers. I did it successful in just one try. To God be the glory.

A huge Uterine myoma

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

I work in a Lying in Maternity center for 3 months. I stopped working because of my other plans. Though I am not already connected with that institution, I make myself available to them when they need help. Today I was called for they need help in delivering a suspected twins. When I arrived in the clinic, the first baby was already out. The patients abdomen is still very big, and when we palpate it, it felt like there was another baby inside the womb. I did and IE (Internal examination) the cervix is 5cm open, but I could not feel baby’s head or any body parts because it was still very high up. I checked the FHT (fetal heart tones) with a doppler but I could not hear anything. I was confused then and worried because if there was still another baby inside, it must be dead already. So we decided to call our back physician. She brought with her an ultrasound. To our surprise, what was in her womb was not a baby, it’s a huge myoma (a growth in the uterus). God is so good to her for it did not obstruct the baby or choke the baby. She was on medication and on under observation for 3 months and will evaluated if she needs surgery.
